Peter Schroeder '50 was a near classmate of Newman and a fellow resident of the T-Barracks. Both were involved in college theater, and together they formed an intramural basketball team called The Barracks Boys that played against fraternity teams. After graduation, Schroeder studied photography at Chicago's Institute of Design, then made his way to New York City in 1953, just as Newman got his first big Broadway break in Picnic. Newman agreed to let his Kenyon friend photograph him in his dressing room and outside the Music Box theater. Over the years Schroeder photographed Newman on other occasions, including in his dressing room (with beer can in hand) during a performance of Baby Want a Kiss, in which he starred with his wife, Joanne Woodward. Schroeder has generously shared these rarely-seen photographs with the Bulletin. View Schroeder's Newman photographs.
