Katherine Hedeen and Victor Rodriguez-Nunez of the Spanish faculty along with Janet McAdams of the English faculty have continued to work with Salt Publishing, editing the Earthworks Series of indigenous writing and Latin American poetry in translation. Salt recently published Blue Coyote with Guitar, by Mexican poet Juian Banuelos, and The Bridges, by CUban poet Fayad Jamis -- both volumes translated by Hedeen and Rodriguez-Nunez. For La Cabra Ediciones, the two also translated, from English into Spanish, a collection of poems by contemporary Native American writers. The book, Poesia indigena estadounidense contemporanea, includes a prologue and a number of poems by McAdams.
McAdams, meanwhile, together ith Kathryn Walkiewicz '03 and Geary Hobson, edited The People Who Stayed: Southeastern Indian Writing after Removal (University of Oklahoma Press). The anthology, of works in many genres, calls attention to a culture that survived in the American Southeast even after the Indian Removal Act of 1830.
