The Doors of Kenyon

Decorating one's lair goes back at least thousands of years to our cave-dwelling ancestors. Among Kenyon's denizens, adornment frequently starts at the door. Whatever the impulse--a sense of aesthetics, the need to personalize, a wish to entertain--door artistry at its best serves as a conversation starter. It tells you something about the occupant and makes you want to know more. During their first-year orientation, Jenny Villanueva '11 and Ayesha Akhtar '11 decided something had to be done about the solid black door of their Norton double. Having four hours to spare and a freshly purchased issue of Vogue at hand, they created a collage that some might call a fashion statement. "We wanted something bright and bold, like us!" says Villanueva. "Simply put, we were bored, and the door was there."
