Going Solo

Ransom Lawn was home to a replica of Old Kenyon built using more than one thousand red Solo cups as part of an alcohol awareness project. The red cups are synonymous with college parties nationwide. "Students often pour liquor up to the first indentation line of a cup. They assume it equals a shot, when in fact it's closer to three," said Anna Heintzelman '09, chair of the Safety and Security Committee, the student group responsible for the project. The display was moved to the Olin Library after its stay on Ransom Lawn in recognition of Party Safety Day. Heintzelman felt it was an effective project. "Numerous students came up to the display to try and see the first indentation line," Heintzelman said. The project was the brainchild of Christine Wheeler, assistant director of housing and residential life.
