Gambier is Talking About...

Locked Residence Halls. Kenyon's dormitories are now locked twenty-four hours a day. The policy was introduced in the winter semester, in part because of a triple homicide that took place in Knox County in the fall. (See "Prison Sentence.") Under the previous policy, residence halls were locked between midnight and 7:00 a.m.

Public Office. Adam Gilson, Kenyon's print design director, is running for an at-large seat on the Mount Vernon City Council. Gilson, a Democrat, has lived in Mount Vernon since 2004. Democrat Sam Barone '72 is running for a ward seat.

Prison Sentence. Matthew Hoffman was sentenced to life in prison for murdering three people in Knox County and raping and kidnaping a thirteen-year-old girl. The tragic story made national headlines.

Power Outage. Classes were canceled in February when an ice storm knocked out power at the College for about thirteen hours.
